ARTIST STATEMENT
I can’t matter. Black lives breathe. I create to release. Art is my temporal lease where the peace doesn’t cease. I am currently conscious of my intent to destroy the preconceived notions of my preternatural gifts, and the war within that impedes calm. Calm is not essential in attaining said goal. A minority’s advantage, or disadvantage, is their own double-consciousness. I seek to disengage the dichotomous mechanism of self-reflection through the majority’s eyes.
Empowered by generations of negation, I refute the concept of the noble savage & ask, “Who exactly is the target audience? The civilized observer of the Primitive?” I aim to spark an injection of unconscious influence, owed by fate, to relive the trepidation instilled by the majority’s prescient inferiority complexes.
My psychic connection to creativity informs my soul to the nature of my driven will to write words, and create images and music without cultural context. My psychic connection informs my will that my imagination is the most vital component in my survival. I can’t imagine a world in which I see and hear in the aggregate. I will not suffer pastiche as my organic traditions have yet to be established.
Cultural anachronisms will be the fodder for the formation of my ostensible examinations of the unimportance of ethnicity in creativity. This statement portends my embroiled path to discovering any destined creation from within, and to embody my vision’s passion with a real world plaster. Personal Monoliths to degrade or be heralded. Personal nonetheless. Personal declarations of bite & breath.
My practice of approaching art as anachronism or anathema is the process of breaking through to the other side. Whether my livelihood depends on it or not, I can not be subordinate to any projected opinion, even my own.
